Andy Warhol – Ai Weiwei Exhibition

On the last day of 2015, I visited NGV International Museum for the first time. The exhibition was advertised everywhere in Melbourne so I could hardly miss it.

I don’t know much about Andy Warhol and actually it was the first time I learned about Ai Weiwei and his work. But I didn’t try googling about them too much beforehand; I feel that I would’t comprehend contemporary art very well whether or not I learned about it.

However, I found Andy Warhol’s work quite interesting. I think his works are visually appealing as he used to be a professional advertisement illustrator. In my view, there’s no harm in beauty although I know that aesthetics is not an important point of modern art. Also, he clearly understood how the industry was changing and how it brought about a change in the way we think and live; he cleverly expressed that notion into the form of artwork.

Ai Weiwei is also an interesting artist. All his work send a very clear message about his principles and values. The scale of some of his work is very impressive and reminds me of Nam Jun Paik’s works. I’m definitely going to learn more about him.
